Industrial heat solutions and their benefit for the environment
In the context of the European Green Deal, the EU has set itself, with European Climate Legislation, the objective of achieving climate neutrality by 2050. To this end, over the next few years it is essential to work to reduce current levels of greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030. The crisis caused by the pandemic meant a hiatus of almost two years, but since the end of 2021 we see a rebound in emissions again.
At IES Soler we are aware of this important change and the need faced by many of our customers: the transition from fossil fuel to renewable processes.
One of our objectives as a company is to help and be an important generator of this change, hence our commitment for 75 years working to offer heat solutions for different engineering sectors such as energy, industry and transport, among many others. Through the design, manufacture and implementation of electric heat and industrial safety solutions, we develop projects adapted to the needs of each client.
Which product is in higher demand?
Among the wide range of heat solutions we have on the market (immersion heaters, for air, electric heat exchangers, heaters for drums, heaters for the livestock sector… ) the products that stand out are the line or circulation heaters for different processes.
This heating system does not require any internal combustion, which eliminates risks such as explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning. Another advantage is that it eliminates a large part of the maintenance problems of using these machines
In addition, by not having radiators, not only will leakage or blowout problems be avoided, but there will also be less risk of property damage. All these factors make electric heaters environmentally friendly, protecting the health of workers and the surrounding areas of the factory or plant.
On the other hand, the use of an electric heating system is very versatile as they can be used in almost any industry.
What steps does an engineering project follow?
We accompany our clients from the conceptual design to the final execution. In a first phase, the customer’s technical data is collected, the available options are considered and the pros and cons are evaluated.
The options for the new product can be evaluated based on cost, quality, satisfaction in meeting the engineering criteria…
From our engineering offices the technical proposal is elaborated, then the commercial office elaborates a technical and economic proposal to our clients with a detailed design. Once we receive the order from our client, then detailed design plans are prepared for the subsequent approval of the client, from that moment we begin the processes of collection and manufacture of the equipment starting the project.
Once the production is finished, we proceed with the verification phase by our quality department (although throughout the manufacturing process there are quality test points), here an exhaustive quality control is done with the factory acceptance tests (FAT) and although they are not mandatory, they are in our opinion, basic to be able to verify and certify the proper functioning of the equipment, and help us ensure the quality of our products and services.
In some cases these final tests are done with the client or external certifying companies required by the client.
Finally, we proceed with the packaging process with proven fixing and conservation systems so that the subsequent shipment guarantees the best possible transfer, the logistics service is responsible for implementing and providing support to our customers depending on the contracted incoterm.
At the end, also on demand, we can offer the commissioning of the equipment in plant anywhere in the world, where its main function is to inspect the equipment already installed by the customer and support in any aspect of engineering to ensure that it has been installed correctly and works properly.
Depending on the project, the duration from its inception can vary substantially. In general, the simplest equipment has a minimum duration of 2 months, however, some have reached 6 months.

How do we help our customers and the environment?
Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions increased by 5.9% during 2021 and 14% in the first five months of 2022, according to data from the ‘Greenhouse Gas Emissions 2022’ Report presented by the Sustainability Observatory. There are, therefore, many reasons to be part of the change. Not only the fines and taxes on companies derived from CO2 emissions should be a sufficient reason to achieve the goal but also the benefits and cost of using other renewable energies.
In a global context in which oil and gas reserves are depleted, experts say we will have to wait to notice a drop in the price. Therefore, the option of using electric heaters is increasing. They have a 100% efficiency so they are within the group of the best clean systems in heating processes and, being electric, do not require oil or gas for their operation so they are the ideal solution to help the much-needed reduction of greenhouse gases.
They can be powered by means of clean energies (solar, hydraulic, wind, etc.) that are renewable and the most abundant on the planet. In addition, the energy efficiency of these products also helps the environment. When less energy is used, it contributes to reducing the carbon footprint. And when we employ renewable energy sources, we are reducing dependence on fossil fuels. This is important not only for the environment, but also for the future generations who will inherit the planet.
Our commitment to the environment is also our ISO-14001 certification, as we promote actions to reduce the environmental impacts produced by our activity as well as reduce energy consumption by optimizing both design and production processes.
